Lorton Meadows Conservation Centre & Nature Reserve

Lorton Meadows Conservation Centre & Nature Reserve

The Conservation Centre & nature reserve lie in the heart of the Lorton Valley, Weymouth. The 75 hectare site, originally farmland, has been managed by Dorset Wildlife Trust for wildlife and people since 1998. The meadows are bounded by mature hedges and small woodlands, with seasonal streams and ponds and part of the species rich grassland is a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest.
The proximity of a 'snap-shot' of Lorton's varied habitats close to the Centre makes it an ideal location for younger key stages. While the wider landscape and diverse habitats, within an urban setting provide plenty of opportunities for higher key stage and FE students. We offer a programme of curriculum linked environmental education activities (please see the website), which can be adapted for special needs students. To book a visit and discuss your requirements, please contact the Centre staff.
