Down Farm occupies part of a wide chalk downland valley in north east Dorset. Formerly producing arable crops it has, for the last decade, been managed under a number of environmental schemes. A grass sward has been established and is being managed to provide a range of habitats for the benefit of existing wildlife and to encourage further colonisation. A variety of ancient sites are present including Scheduled Ancient Monuments and restored earthworks resulting from recent excavations. An on-site museum includes displays on the area's rich archaeological heritage as well as aspects of the more recent history and geology.
