Stanton has a beautiful setting in a quiet south hams valley, surrounded by unspoilt countryside and woodland. There has been a settlement and farming on the site since at least the 13th century and, with the ancient site of Blackdown Rings less than a mile away, probably longer. In recent years Stanton has been an arable farm, but the current owner is returning the land to pasture to encourage wildlife, and wild flowers, particularly the rare heath lobelia, which grows here in abundance.
