Farnell is a mixed farm, with one half being woodlands and the other arable. As well as a number of fields, some of which are lowland heath, there are two ancient woodlands, as part of the farm and several ponds and a lake. Some of the species of dragonfly on the farm are the furthest South East that have ever been discovered.
