Green Oak Farm (Roots to the Moon)

Green Oak Farm (Roots to the Moon)

Green Oak Farm is a 20 acre smallholding nestled in the heart of the woodland valleys of the High Weald where the Jurassic landscape is made up of small irregular shapes fields surrounded by ancient woodland. As a certified organic and biodynamic farm we aim to operate a 'closed loop', holistic system where we create our own living composts for growing veg and herbs and treat our animals with plants, homeopathy and herbs.

We keep a small flock of mixed breed sheep; Jacobs, Dutch Spotted, Texel and Charolais so there is plenty of learning about the different uses of different breeds, we have forty laying chickens and also have table birds for us to compare the differences in size and laying ability. We have cross breed pigs; saddleback (old tasty slow growers) and large whites (to speed up the growth) and we have a small herd of pedigree traditional short legged Hereford Cows with calves. We operate rotational grazing for pasture health, have a small Sussex Variety Apple Orchard, a small plum orchard and a 4 acre woodland. Together we aim for a holistic, balanced and thriving mini ecosystem from which we can all nurture and grow.

There is an abundance of learning to be gained from the horticultural activities, the farm animals and the farmstead itself, however at Green Oak Farm we also share our knowledge of organic farming and biodynamic practices which by their nature creates wildlife habitat, dovetailing into our passion for living alongside our natural and wild living friends.

We also have 36 large solar panels on a rocker system from which we can discuss alternative types of energy production, measure the light with lux meters, consider the position and the movement of the sun for optimum energy use and calculate the energy production alongside our energy use.
