We are a 4,000-acre Estate on the Rutland / Northamptonshire border. We have undertaken a large-scale environmental project on 1,000 acres of our land (in partnership with Natural England) and can offer a variety of farm-based activities and learning opportunities for children to understand the link between food, farming and the environment.
We grow wheat, barley, rape and beans and have some historic pasture. We have cows (some highland cows) and sheep – including lambs during the lambing season.
We have 25 fully funded visits each year and these can be tailored to the individual needs of the school. We have covered areas and a classroom as well as walks and teacher-led trails that can be enjoyed as part of the visit.
We can offer:
• National Curriculum linked learning
• Two-hour farm tour with our local farmer
• Tailored activities
• Worksheets and activity sheets
• Teacher-led trails
• Bathroom and handwashing facilities
• Picnic area
• Coach parking
Activities include: soil detectives and worm counting, the great manure hunt, where does our food come from, habitat mapping and many other that link to many subjects from science to math, geography and art.
