Visiting RSPB Saltholme provides pupils with a near unique experience of getting up close to the amazing wildlife that lives in the middle of industrial Teesside; we give classroom learning a real-world context by giving pupils the opportunity to see plants and animals in their natural habitats, guided by our expert education staff.
At RSPB Saltholme we offer a range of school workshops covering aspects of the Science curriculum, suitable for Early Years, KS1 and KS2. A breakdown of each of the sessions we offer and the relevant curriculum links is enclosed. All our workshops are covered by the Learning Outside the Classroom Quality Badge, which is a Department of Education endorsed award to show that our sessions are safe, well organised, and that the content is relevant to your classroom learning.
Our sessions cover a wide range of science topics from adaptations, life cycles, living things & habitats, birds, predator prey relationships, and much more. Our purpose built Discovery Zone contains everything we need to show your class the wonderful wildlife that lives on our reserve. For older age groups, we offer the chance for classes to get real world practice in survey methods and data collection, such as line transects and random sampling. If there is something specific you would like us to cover, please ask- we can be quite flexible in adapting our sessions to your classes needs.
Each programme is designed to last two hours, with sessions run from 10am to 12pm or 12.30 to 2.30pm. This means that you can combine two sessions to make a full day of learning.
