The Elan Valley Estate is owned by Dwr Cymru Welsh Water, with support for the educational programme from the Elan Valley Trust. We were the first place in Wales to be awarded the Learning Outside the Classroom Quality Badge, in February 2009, and successfully renewed it in 2011, 2013 and 2016. All visits are free of charge! Transport grants may also be available if you have never visited before! The Estate comprises over 70 square miles of spectacular scenery including woodland, moorland, rivers and dams and reservoirs, which have been used as a water supply for the last century. There is also a large Visitor Centre which is open all year, with an exhibition hall containing information about the history of the building of the dams, water supply and natural history. Activities are led by a full-time Education Ranger and could include pond dipping, minibeast hunts, river studies, visiting the dams and reservoirs (with a chance to visit inside a dam!) or quizzes at the Visitor Centre. Elan is a great place to bring your pupils, from Early Years and Key Stage 1 through to Key Stages 4 and 5. There are so many learning avenues to tie in with the National Curriculum or your own study plans. Please get in touch for further information!
