The joys of discovering the natural world should be available to all children. Springfield near Knowle, close to Birmingham is designed especially for children with physical or sensory deprivation: those children who have often been excluded from wild places due to problems of access. There is wheelchair access to all these areas, even allowing the child in a chair to go into the river and 'paddle' and dip along with their more able-bodied friends. The woodland is wild and natural but with gravel paths running throughout. The blind or partially sighted child can have a safe, tactile walk and enjoy a variety of sounds and smells.
