The farm extends to 121ha of which 90ha are used for arable production and the remainder being lowland grass used for sheep rearing and woodland. Whinney Hill is located in Mid Northumberland, an intermediate plateau of upland fringe that represents the transitional area between the Pennine uplands and the low-lying coastal plain. The farm occupies the south-facing slope of an undulating ridge. To the west, Devils Causeway runs past the farm and the Trewitley Burn passes through the farm.
