This 60-acre farmland includes small meadows, an apple orchard, woodland, wetland and riverside habitats, traditional hedgerows, an old quarry, disused railway line with viaduct remains and the goyle – a steep wooded ravine with a stream feeding a small lake. Hurstone is home to a group of temporary artists who share a common interest in the natural environment and work with recycled materials. The artists host visits from schools, several have teaching qualifications and all are experienced in education.
