While efficiently producing wholesome food, a philosophy called Integrated Farm Management (IFM), is used to take great care of the natural environment. IFM seeks to harmonise nature and the science of food production, ensuring pollution is minimised, the landscape is enhanced and wildlife habitats that produce bio-diversity are encouraged. JSR Farms Ltd have been farming for over 45 years, and is the UK’s largest family farming business. Southburn Farm comprises 1,680 acres of arable land and is the centre of our “lowland” group of six farms totalling some 3,929 acres. Two thirds of the soil is a clay loam and one third a chalky gravel both producing high yields. The farm supports two high health status pig breeding units, totalling 770 sows.
