Ashcroft Farm extends to about 77ha. It was bought by the Meeson family in 1961, and for many years was run as an intensive, grass based, dairy farm, with a successful herd of Jersey cows. The herd was sadly sold in 2004. Today the main enterprise is the rearing of free-range meat chickens. This extends to 34,500 birds at any one time, but uses less than 1% of the land area. The rest has diversified to include, growing fodder for the equine market, liveries, a campsite, and most recently introducing a better environmental role with Higher Level Stewardship.
