Reduce, reuse, recycle

Teaching about sustainability is an important strand in all three Countryside Classroom themes, such as discovering how to reduce food waste, learning about sustainable approaches in farming and understanding the importance of conserving resources in the natural environment. Growing Devon Schools, a Countryside Classroom Partner recently reminded us of the value of their local Scrapstores in providing free materials for indoor and outdoor projects. Scrapstores are community enterprises that collect off-cuts and surplus materials from local factories and businesses, for creative re-use in activities such as education, play, arts and crafts. Waste is diverted from landfill and the community gains access to high quality, low cost resources. Find your nearest Scrapstore here
